Ernest Hemingway´s short story “A Day Wait” is about a nine-year-old boy who wakes up one morning with a fever. The boys father calls a doctor who takes the boys temperature. It is 102 degrees, diagnoses influenza. The boy, has been to school in France, does´nt know the difference between Fahrenheit und Centigrade, so he thought he died with a temperature of 102 degrees. At the school in France the boys had told him that the normal temperature was 37 degrees and nobody could live with 44 degrees. Being scared of dying, he doesn’t talk abput that with his father. Waiting all day he manages to stay calm and keep himself under control. He takes his medicine, but refuses to sleep. The father, finding the behaviour a luttle strange without realizing what is troubeling with his son. He even leaves him alone in the house and goes hunting for a while. In the evening he finally finds out about the boy’s suffering and explains the misunderstanding. The story contains little action, which is based on the conversation between father and son. The misunderstanding between them is simple and trivial but it contains tragic elements. Facing his imminent death with heroic indifference the boy is being fond of his father. The father is obviously a loving father but he is unable to understand his son’s suffering.

 Can America ever be weaned off its love affair with guns?

The Text “Can America ever be weaned off its love affair with guns”, tells about America and the problem with the possession of guns in the United states. In the USA you are allowed to wear a handgun by yourself.
In recent years there were posted a large number of murderers, and death´s. The number of murders in the USA is about 17000 a year, of which about 15000 are commited with firearms. In contrast to Australia its a very large number of murders.
The Text reveals that the number of suicid dead´s are very high too. Every eight hour there is a death by suicide.
But when you have a clean criminal record its realtive easy to buy a gun. When you don´t have a clean criminal record its nevertheless easy to get one. When you want to get one, you get one!
The law of the guns, that you can wear a handgun, is not same in every state in the US. For Example, Pennsylvania has one of the worst gun-control regimes in The USA. In contrast to other states, the USA is the State with the most murders by firearms.

a) I think he means that it´s not the time to sleep, but it´s the time to act against the racism and segregation.

b) I think with this sentence he wanted to say that the past of segretation are very bad, and that they must begin to change that. They need to take Action against segregation and demand the justice of all human equate.

c) I think he mean that, whe the fight for freedom and liberty, they don´t think about bitterness and hatred.

d) With this statement he wanted to say that he see one day all human, all races, and the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaves owners are happy with each other and don´t fight against each other!

 

President Bush´s Speach

In this Speech of Goerge W. Bush, on Independence day in 2006, he honors the bravery and sacrifices who have made freedom possible. He says that this Day has to be celebrated like no other festival. Many American people have sacrifices themselves to make the freedom and Independence possible for all citizens. The people who defend the freedom today were also honored. The rural men of America who are sitting in different, maybe  dangerous places, are highly valued by the president, and he respects  and is greatful for them. He also admires and comforts the family and related of the soldiers, who also have to live with uncertainty!
Every American citizen should be happy, and have to honor all sacrifices.

The Pilgrim Fathers

The first english settlers in Newengand were named as the pilgrimfathers. In year 1620 they sailed with the mainflower, an old sailing ship, over the atlantik, to Massachusetts. There they founded a new colonie, the Plymouth. The first permanent European settlement in New England.

Although the Pilgrims were not the first english settlers in the territory of the united states, they play, as pioneers of the amerikan folklore, a big roll!

The Pilgrimfathers were separatists. So they were belong to a special radical type in the english puritanism. This sort of the group did’nt belonged to the englisch church, and demanded a apsolut municipal autonomy.

 

The American Dream

A real definition for the American dream, does not exist. Every American citizen has a different opinion of the American Dream.

For some people it´s the dream of freedom and equality, for some others it is the dream of a fulfilled life or even the dream of fame and wealth.

In general the American dream can defined as the opportunity of freedom for the US citizen. You can get rich and famous if you work hard enough for it!
